    January 28th, 2010Reno History

Reno is the fourth most populous city in the state of Nevada, situated along the east of the Sierra Nevada Mountains on the western edge of the Great Basin. Reno borders Sparks and together they form the Reno-Sparks Metropolitan Area. Reno, known as “The Biggest Little City in the World”, is famous for its casinos and is the second largest gaming destination in Nevada.

Reno serves as the urban center for a region including nearby Carson City and the Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe, Pyramid Lake, and historic mining town Virginia City, home of the Comstock Lode.
As early as the 1850s a few pioneers settled in the Truckee Meadows, and then in addition to the subsistence farming, these early residents picked up the business from the log bridge built across the river Truckee. Apparently, the city did not emerge from careful community planning but rather was the result of the mining activities of the gold-rush migrants. On May 13, 1868, the town site of Reno (named after Civil War General Jesse Reno) was officially established with the arrival of Central Pacific Railroad.
City residents are called “Reno-ites”. On one hand, Renoites claim Nevadans are simply of a freer nature, and on the other side, they feel city has followed the profiteering characteristic of the gold rush era founders. Regardless of these conflicting views, Reno is home to a variety of recreation activities including both seasonal and year-round. The oldest university in the State of Nevada is also situated in Reno.
Reno sits in the rain shadow of the Sierras with average annual rainfall of 7.25 inches. Most rainfall occurs in winter and spring. July is the warmest month, with an average high of 91°F, and January is the coldest month, with an average low of 19°F.
Before the late 1950s, Reno was the gambling capital of the United States, but in the last twenty years Las Vegas’ rapid rise, it has lost that level of prominence in this gambling industry. Irrespective of the crisis, downtown is improving with projects like a baseball and entertainment district and several condo projects have been completed.

The most spectacular event in the city is Burning Man festival. Many burners pass through Reno on the way to Black Rock City. Some hotels offer Burning Man discounts for travelers staying overnight in Reno.

The historic Carson City mint is now home to the Nevada State Museum, with exhibits dealing with everything from prehistoric native life to the Old West mining boom to the current day. January 28th, 2010Reno Hotels

Any person who frequents different hotels will easily submit to the fact that all hotels are not the same and they differ with respect to location, price structure, amenities, and services. As quoted by George Bernard Shaw “The great advantage of a hotel is that it’s a great refuge from home life”, thus, it becomes even more important to analyze all these aspects before selecting the place away from home, which still gives the comfort of being at home. In order to make this process of selection easier, there are few basic guidelines:
    Positive reviews
The past experiences of the people who have stayed at the place you’re considering and their feedback can be instrumental to your decision regarding the selection of the hotel. If a traveler is willing to share the valid information about all features of the hotel, it can be advantageous for you.
    Affordable price
A person always faces a budget constraint and thus, your budget may clash with your choices and dreams of staying at some luxury suite. Hence, affordability is an important factor in the selection process. You need to search and single out the Reno hotels that suit the budget profile. The other measures which a person can take are to search for discounts and other special offers. You can save money by traveling on weekdays or by availing the special discounts. Discounts are offered on online booking sites and travel clubs. In order to enjoy a stay with good facilities and in a better quality hotel satisfying the budget constraints, a person can book a hotel in places located outside the major metropolitan areas.
    Key locations
The most important aspect of the selection process is selecting the hotel according to the purpose of the travel. If a person is traveling to Reno Nevada for work, opting for a hotel nearer to the work spot where that person is handling the business dealings becomes the necessary condition for the selection process. This way, one can reduce the transportation costs and cut down on commuting time and end up saving money for other expenses. The time saved can be used as preparation time for the meeting or conference. In other case, if the purpose is recreation, that is to enjoy the luxury of a different place, proximity to popular attractions of that place will be desirable. Time can be saved on travel and can be spent on the enjoyment part of the trip. Thus, selecting key location according to the purpose of the travel is very essential.
    The right amenities
The next step in this selection process after short listing few choices is to check the features of the potential hotels on the websites and ensure whether they match to your preferences with respect to basic amenities and comfort. A person can view the displayed photos on the websites and read the provided information regarding the list of amenities. The basic amenities include the refrigerator facility in the room, laundry facilities, and swimming pool in the hotel and then further, the room size is also important criteria for the selection process. While viewing the photos, a person can check out if the respective hotel has the right décor and ambiance in line with the preferences and tastes of that person. And then, every hotel presents the best image in the website, so one needs to analyze those aspects also. Lastly, a person can mentally rank the hotels according to the desired amenities before making a final decision.
